The big news for this issue is undoubtedly the upcoming release of REAL Studio Web Edition (see page 21).

I had the privilege of being given an in-depth demo of the new software by REAL Software CEO and Founder Geoff Perlman, and while it's not wise to judge prematurely, I must say I am really excited.

If you've ever attempted web development, you know that web applications require a master's degree in an alphabet soup of languages (HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, AJAX, etc.). Not only is web development tedious and slow, but the end results don't look much like a desktop application. REAL Studio Web Edition remarkably solves both those problems at once, building upon the REAL Studio cross-compiling environment to generate a compiled web application the same way you create a desktop app today.

This is significant news both for existing web developers and for us who are familiar with REAL Studio. We can soon reuse our REALbasic programming skills to build web software, expanding our pool of potential clients and customers. I also anticipate this new product will bring many new developers into the REAL Studio ecosystem, benefiting us all. And in the long-term, I see the possibility of using Web Edition to produce mobile apps (standard web languages are not banned by Apple so these could even be sold via the App Store).

It's an exciting time to be a REAL Studio user!
