Excerpt of article text...

As anyone who's tried to create reports using REALbasic knows, REALbasic has weak reporting and printing capabilities. By default, the only way to create a report that can be printed is to manually use the PrinterSetup class. It is quite tedious.

There are alternatives, of course. In my research, these are some of the available options:

Custom code

HTML/CSS

Reporting Framework (Keith DeLong)

On-Target Reports

Formatted Text Control

WordGuise

Various PDF tools

We'll start with On-Target Reports, which I have successfully used on several projects.

On-Target Reports

As far as I know, On-Target Reports (www.OnTargetReports.com) is the only reporting tools specifically designed to work with REALbasic. It has been in development for some time and is currently at version 5.0.11. It sells for $200.

Essentially, On-Target Reports is a clone of reporting tools like Crystal Reports (or Access). It allows you to design report templates using "bands". The data in each band is filled in at run-time by data that gets supplied to the report template.
