I've been using RBScript for quite a while now and I love it. It's one of those special features of REALbasic that often gets overlooked. RBScripts are useful for all sorts of things, such as making plugins, filters, or scriptable applications. While at first they may seem to have limited usefulness, the more you use RBScripts the more ways you can imagine using them.
(For those of you new to REALbasic who are unfamiliar with RBScript, check out the "What is RBScript?" sidebar before continuing.)
Lately I've created several projects where the main application is little more than a run-time engine and the core work is done via RBScripts. Why use such an architecture? The main benefit is flexibility. By not building the core into the app itself, I am free to modify the core at any time.
One example of this is a customer database I am building for my software business. Unfortunately, my previous customer data is scattered across several different databases and in several different formats (some of it goes back to an OS 9 database I can't even run under OS X any more).
