The Future Comes

By the time you read this, I'll probably be heading to Austin for REAL World 2008. REAL World is always good, but this promises to be an interesting year, as REAL Software is making some efforts to turn REALbasic into a truly professional tool (not that it's not now, but there are some gaps). I hope to come back with a vision of the future and where REALbasic is heading. Expect my full report in issue 6.4.

A health update

Periodically I am asked about my health after my diabetes diagnosis a year or so ago and I am pleased to report that everything is going great. In fact, I've written a book about my experience and how I lost 75 pounds. If you hate dieting, trust me: this is the weight management plan for you. If you're interested, read more about the book on my personal site: http://www.zeedar.com/eatbig

In This Issue

This is such a packed issue I gave Toby's interface column a vacation (don't worry, he'll be back next issue). We've got a whop- ping six features. First there's an interview with John Callis, who runs Clarity Legal Software and writes all his acclaimed cross-platform apps in REALbasic. Next Andy Dent explains what RB2008r1's new "introspection" feature is all about. We have Norman Palardy who discusses an inter- esting project involving a loosely coupled system and I share some perspectives on "impossible programming." If you've ever felt overwhelmed by a project, this article will give you hope that there's a way out.

For advanced users, JC Cruz discusses using threads in finite state machines. Finally Dave Addey demonstrates how to use Subversion for version control in REALbasic.

Our regular columnists are here with good stuff on generating PDFs, module properties, OpenBase, being an RB consul- tant, and more. Enjoy!

End of article.
