Excerpt of article text...

If you're like me, you never run out of ideas for REALbasic projects -- the problem is finding time for development. This lack of time directly conflicts with my aspirations to write elegant and beautiful software. I call this the "Grand Vision" problem. A quick hack just won't cut it, so I postpone writing a program until I have the time to do it right, and thus the program never gets written. But as I've learned, sometimes a quick-and-dirty simple program is better than none. The key is keeping it really simple and focusing on the application's core function.

Here at REALbasic Developer I use dozens of programs I've written over the years to help with the business. A few of the main ones are:

RBD Database (manages the subscriber database)

RBD Webmaker (generates HTML for the RBD website)

Labelmaker (prints labels for customer orders)

RBD XML Tagger (marks up magazine articles in XML)

Half a dozen smaller utilities for various RBD-related tasks.

These are great and generally do what I need, but I've got a stack of ideas for other programs I need to write. One that I've been wanting for years is a way to manage articles for upcoming issues: track where the articles are in the workflow, compute if I have enough content for an issue, plan future issues, etc. This is a complex job as articles go through multiple phases (concept, assignment, writing, revision, editing, and production), we often work several issues in advance (three to six months in human time), and of course timelines change as scheduled features are delayed or something new comes in last minute.
