I am pleased to report that my journey to Austin, Texas for REAL World went smoothly. I had no medical issues (I was slightly nervous as this was my first major trip since my hospitalization last fall) and was able to control my diabetes just fine. To top things off, the conference was the best ever. I attended some really helpful sessions, made some important contacts, and even presented for the first time this year (which was surprisingly fun).

You can read all about REAL World in this issue, of course. If you couldn't make it, hopefully my detailed report will give you a fair idea of what it was like. I encourage you to start planning for next year: REAL Software just announced the dates for the 2008 conference (March 19- 21) so mark your calendar and start saving those pennies!

Thanks Will and Toby

This issue marks the end of Will Leshner's From Scratch column, but I am delighted to report that Brad Rhine has agreed to take it over and will bring a fresh feel to this unique RBD feature. Please be sure to send your thanks to Will for all the hard work he's done on this column over the years.

In other staff news, Toby Rush has set aside one of his hats and handed over the Review Editor position to Dave Mancuso. (Toby still serves as copy editor and columnist.) Thanks for all the hard work, Toby, and welcome, Dave! If you have a product you'd like to review or are inter- ested in writing reviews, give Dave a ring today.

In This Issue

Besides my REAL World report, we've got "REALWord"--Jose Cruz's scientific look at text readability, I chip in with a calendar canvas class article, and of course we've got our regular columnists on everything from databases to algorithms. Enjoy!

End of article.
