REALbasic 2005 Is Here!

By the time you read this, you'll probably be using the new version of REALbasic. While we're excited about the future, here at REALbasic Developer, we'll gradually be adopting the new version. It's our policy to use the current release of REALbasic, but understand that because of our publishing schedule we use articles written months earlier so it will take time for our writers to make the switch. Hopefully most projects and code will be compatible with both RB5.5 and RB2005 -- we'll try to post notes warning of any version requirements.

Dare I say it? We've got some amazing things in this feature-packed issue!

Of course with a lead like that I've got to start out with Joe Strout's cool maze-generation program. Not only is it fun and useful for games, but it demonstrates some nice coding techniques -- I encourage you to study the code.

Then we've got another edition of our REALScience feature: this time on the gory details of floating point math. Run for the hills, mathphobics!

In exclusive for Windows users, we've got a neat article on Windows keyboard handling by Slayfire's Hank Marquis. Those who develop cross-platform or on Windows will find it beneficial.

Would you like to make REALbasic sing like a cell phone? James Noe shows you how in his feature on ring tones. There are many practical applications for this fun project!

Aaron Ballman is back to explain how to use networking in REALbasic -- it's a must read.

I haven't even mentioned David Hutchinson's terrific Postmortem on his iList Studio 2 software. If you're interested in databases, you need to read his article.

And of course we've got reviews, news, our regular columns in this issue.

I will also thank Owen for his contributions to the magazine with his Visual Basic column which we'll no longer be publishing. According to him, he's covered all the main conversion problems. But keep an eye out for him: he might resurface on some other topics.
