Excerpt of article text...

This March nearly a hundred and fifty eager REALbasic programmers invaded Austin, Texas for the first REAL World Conference. Introductions between people generally went something like this:

Tom: Hi, I'm Tom Rex.

Roy: (with blank look) I'm Roy Bill.

Tom: (with blank look) Do I know you?

Roy: I'm Square Cactus Software. You?

Tom: (still with blank look) I run Dinosaurware. What program did you write?

Roy: My main product is Sleazy Tax Advisor 3.2.

Tom: (astonished) Oh! I know you! I love that program. I use it all the time. Well, every April 14th when I'm working on my taxes. Its advice has saved me a bundle.

Roy: (pleased) Cool! What have you written?

Tom: It's a kids game. Dinosplat.

Roy: Sorry, I haven't heard of it.

Tom: Here's my card.

Roy: (staring at email address) Wait a sec! I know that email. Didn't we have a discussion on the NUG last month about b-tree algorithms?

Tom: You're roy256? Wow, your refactoring techniques were incredible!

(The two wander off, deeply engaged in a conversation only ten people out of a million would understand.)
