I'll admit it: sometimes programming can be a frustrating experience. If you aren't sure how to solve certain problems, running into odd behavior, or having trouble finding nagging bugs, you may wish you'd picked a different profession or hobby. For small developers, it can be a lonely experience as well.
That's why I found the first annual REAL World REALbasic User Conference to be so refreshing. After two-and-half days of living and breathing REALbasic code with 150 like-minded individuals, I came away revived and invigorated, more excited about programming than I've been in a long time. It was a relief to learn that others experience the same problems I do, and being able to meet people I've only known virtually was a lot of fun.
Unfortunately, many of you couldn't make this year's conference, so I've written an article (see page 16) and included a photo gallery to bring you a glimpse of the experience. Enjoy, and make plans now to attend in 2005!
In This Issue
In addition to our cover story on REAL World 2004, we've got a bunch of special features in this issue. New contributor Michelle Parker has a great article on working with PDF files within REALbasic (creating and printing them). If you're interested in databases but intimidated by SQL like me, Jonathan Johnson begins a series on explaining SQL in simple segments even I can handle. Joe Nastasi is back to finish the detailed--and fascinating--postmortem he started last issue. And REAL Software's Director of Marketing, Gwen Palmer, interviews some users of the REALbasic Developer Program.
Of course all our regular columns are here; I'm sure you'll find something exciting!
