Intelli Innovations describes their product Site Turbo as a web site optimizer. By optimizing the size of text and graphic files included in the site, according either to a set of user-defined parameters or to a well-chosen default set. Depending on the particular characteristics of the site that you optimize with Site Turbo, the results can vary from underwhelming to extremely impressive. Although there are sites that will not be helped greatly, Site Turbo has potential to provide important results to most sites and extremely significant results to some.

Site Turbo works on two axes: by compressing text files and by compressing graphics files.
It is clear that the most significant results come from compressing the graphics files, although it is not clear precisely what optimizations are made to the graphics. It is strange that with so much information given regarding the optimization of text files, there is nothing to be said concerning graphics optimizations. However, after some testing, there does not seem to be a significant change in color counts or JPEG compressions.
On the other hand, the user has a great degree of control over the optimization of text files, and the changes made to the text files are clear. First, there is a list of tags that can be selected to be removed or changed to shorter, more basic tags. There is also the option to optimize the space usage by eliminating whitespace. Between these two options, the text file portion of my website was reduced by 16%, not as great as the savings from the graphics portion, but still not meaningless.
Site Turbo has a few extras that complete the package. First, anyone using Perl or PHP or any other programming or scripting language on their site need not worry. Site Turbo will leave these sections alone. Also, there is an option to disguise email addresses so that they may still be made available on your website, without being picked up by bots harvesting for spammers.
As a final note, Site Turbo was made with REALbasic. It's attractive interface that takes advantage of Mac OS X-specific interface elements show once again that REALbasic is not deserving of the frequent charges made against it of being ugly. It can also be shown as evidence of a category of applications that beginning REALbasic developers may look into. There is very little to the interface of Site Turbo, it mostly works behind the scene. Beginners might take note and see the ease with which REALbasic development can take a simple idea and turn it into an application.
Site Turbo may not be important enough to every web site developer to be worth the registration fee; however, there will definitely be those that will benefit greatly. The trial version generously performs all optimizations, so that you may accurately gauge the effects that the application will have on your web site before buying the software.
