Oops!

In our last issue (1.4, Feb./March), I goofed: the text for Paul Lefebvre's Databases for REAL column (page 27) was the same as in the previous issue! I fixed this in the PDF edition (PDF subscribers may download the new version), and print subscribers can download a free PDF of the corrected column:. My apologies for the inconvenience.

In This Issue

Our primary focus this issue is REALbasic 5, with not one, but two in-depth articles. REAL Software engineer Joe Strout explains the new compiler. And even if you think you know RB5, Matt Neuburg is sure to reveal some secrets in his detailed round-up of all the new features.

We've got more from Joe as he brings us a fascinating look at path-finding algorithms.

For our Postmortem, Jacob Lauritzen writes about SmartLaunch, and I interview Michael Herrick, author of Spamfire, one of the most successful Made-With-REALbasic products on the market.

I wanted to bring a little fun into the magazine, so I'm pleased to shorten Source Code to make room for Hacker, an original comic strip created just for RBD from Dan Wilson (issue 1.2 cover artist). It's about the daily life of an enthusiastic REALbasic programmer and we'll feature a new cartoon in every issue. Enjoy!

Welcome

I'd also like welcome several new advertisers on board: n/software (makers of terrific Visual Basic plugins now developing for RB), Monkeybread Software, and Valentina developer Paradigma Software. Be sure to check out these companies' products!

End of article.
