Excerpt of article text...

We have been holding a series of staff meetings to design and build an application called ShipIt! from scratch in REALbasic. ShipIt! creates release documents, such as the readme and product documentation, for a software release. In today's meeting we will write the code that implements the interface we designed in the last meeting. We will fill out the code for the ItemListBox, which will handle all interactions with the two ListBoxes in our interface. We will see how to initialize the TemplatesListBox, which we were not able to do in the last meeting. We will also write the code that creates the release documents from our templates and variables.

We will not have time to cover every detail of our implementation. To see all of the details, please download the project; it contains commented code. Study the code in the project to see how everything fits together. What we discuss in this meeting should help you to understand how the code works.

Review

ShipIt! creates release documents from templates. Each template contains variables, the values for which are provided by the user. ShipIt! generates one document for each template by substituting values for each variable in a template. We indicate a variable in a template by placing '#' characters on either side of the variable's name.
