About REALbasic Developer Magazine

REALbasic, from REAL Software, is one of the hottest development environments on any platform. It's a complete development environment, with built-in interface design tools and code editor. While similar to Visual Basic from Microsoft, REALbasic is unique in that it's a cross-compiler: from a single code base you can compile stand-alone applications for Macintosh, Windows, and (soon) Linux operating systems.

Originally built for the Macintosh, REALbasic for Microsoft Windows was released in 2003, allowing cross-compiling for the Mac from Windows! There's even an included tool to convert Visual Basic applications to REALbasic. Future editions of REALbasic will be support compiling for Linux.

REALbasic is so easy to use it's attracting many users who don't consider themselves programmers, yet the language has professional features and is used to create many commercial applications. Thousands of people have discovered the power of programming by learning to use REALbasic and it is part of the curriculum in a many schools.

Like any tool, REALbasic is only as powerful as your knowledge. Now there's a magazine that will help you tweak every clock cycle of power from REALbasic. Whether you're a beginner or a veteran, a subscription to REALbasic Developer will save you hours of time and frustration.

Launched in the summer of 2002, REALbasic Developer is a bimonthly print publication. Every issue is packed with over 50 pages of vital information:

Subscribers to REALbasic Developer are mailed the print edition via the postal service, but also receive the PDF edition electronically. About the Publisher

REALbasic Developer is published by DesignWrite, a Northern California graphic design firm founded in 1991 by Marc Zeedar. Marc has been involved in graphics and publishing for over fifteen years. He created his first magazine when he was thirteen, and in eighth grade knew he wanted to be a writer.

Over the years, Marc has taught journalism and yearbook at the college level; written, acted, and directed plays; been a professional actor, photographer, writer, editor, and graphic designer; and he wrote and directed two short films. Marc's currently working on a screenplay and has several novels in progress. Marc writes the free weekly REALbasic University tutorial column for Applelinks.

Most recently Marc worked at a commercial printing company for ten years as the in-house graphic designer and electronic pre-press manager. In May 2000, his shareware company, Stone Table Software, released the acclaimed Z-Write (written in REALbasic), a unique word processor for creative writers that received praise from the likes of MacUser, MacHome, and was even mentioned as an example of independent software innovation in Business Week.

Launching REALbasic Developer is a dream he's had since 1999.

About the Editorial Board

The REALbasic Developer Editorial Board is an advisory committee that helps guide and establish the magazine's Editorial vision. The members are:

Joe Strout - Joe was a senior software engineer at REAL Software and now is a principal of Inspiring Applications. He's been writing software for Apple computers back to the Apple II, and has contributed articles to programming magazines such as Nibble and MacTech, as well as several scientific journals. In his academic career, Joe studied psychology and neuroscience. He now strives to apply an understanding of the brain to building better software. Joe believes that writing software is just about the most fun one can have with clothes on, and has joined the REALbasic Developer board in hopes of sharing his excitement with others.

Erick Tejkowski - Erick is the author of REALbasic for Dummies and writes a REALbasic column for ResExcellence.
